Rose Festival Performance – June 6, 2026
The Northwest Chinese Alliance 2026 entry into the Portland Rose Festival Grand Floral Starlight Parade with the popular Chinese YangGe Dance. The Portland Rose Festival combined their two most popular parades into one big single parade “Grand Floral Starlight Parade”. This year’s parade returned to downtown Portland and took place in the evening. The streets were very crowded and lined with Metro Portland residents and out-of-town visitors alike – cheering the very large number of entries selected by the Portland Rose Festival this year.
The “YangGe dance” is a traditional Chinese Fork Dance dating back 1000 years old. It began as a folk dance celebrating agricultural life and pray for good harvests. Over time, it evolved into a popular community performance that combines dancing, music, storytelling, and theatrical elements.
Our team was proud to receive strong positive audience responses along the parade route with cheers and “10” ratings. Thank you to our Portland community for the great support.
Our 2026 Grand Floral Starlight Parade performance team was led by performance director, Jennifer Li, and artistic director, Lihong Dai, working with Claudia Chai of NWCA Performance Committee for a solid 4-5 months to get ready for the final performance at the 2026 Grand Floral Starlight Parade.
The 2026 NWCA entry included our large team of Metro Portland residents of 30+ beautiful dancers and 4 high school students taking turns to carry the NWCA banner. We also have a large group of volunteers carrying supply cars with sound equipment, water, snacks, and dancers’ personal items; as well as our long-time photographers and videographers.
We will be celebrating the successful completion of the 2026 entry and holding our celebratory event this summer to mark the 15th anniversary of the Northwest Chinese Alliance and to recognize the contributions of our 2026 Team.
