2015 Grand Floral Parade

Rose Festival Performance – June 6, 2015

The Northwest Chinese Alliance is back again this year with another strong team of 30 beautiful dancers dancing the traditional forms of Beijing Opera dances.  Beijing Opera is the Chinese national essence with history over 200 years.  It is the most significant of all operas in China which gives it a profound influence and plays a large role in Chinese culture.

2015-NWCA-GFP-1-aThere are two groups of formations. The inside group of dancers are lively, vivacious young female characters in Beijing Opera. They are wearing short blouses and colorful pants with large flower Ling Zi as head piece. The outside group has Beijing Opera face makeup print on their shirts representing young and valiant female characters such as legendary woman warrior Hua Mulan in Beijing Opera flag dancing.

2015-NWCA-Team-aMany of our volunteer dancers are from the local Chinese community and all have strong interests in showcasing Chinese culture to the global audience during the Grand Floral Parade.  The two leading groups in the dance are from Chinese Friendship Association of Portland Fitness Dance Group and Portland Chinese Dance Troupe. They are busy moms and professionals in university, fortune 500 companies such as Intel, Nike Xerox, Cadence and other business operations and business owners including CPAs.

This year’s team is directed by Ms. Zhang Li, a very experienced and well-known artistic director and dance teacher in the Portland Metro area.  Our team of performers has worked very hard over the past few months to rehearse and get ready for this year’s Parade.NWCA 2015 from Portland Chinese TimesWe celebrated our team’s efforts and dedications by hosting our annual celebration dinner on June 14th.  We thanked our dancers, volunteers and artistic director for their great efforts.  We also welcomed our sponsors and guests from New York Life Insurance, Chinese Friendship Association of Portland, Oregon Chinese Artists Association, reporter from the Portland Chinese Times, and other honored guests.  Above is an article from the June 18, 2015 issue of the Portland Chinese Times.
